Celia & Isabel: Welcome June

Today is Celia & Isa's 6 week birthday and they turn 30 weeks gestation tomorrow! There were a few numbers that seemed so far away in the beginning and 30 weeks was one of them - so glad we are finally there.

All in all, the girls have been doing great. They had a big Memorial Day weekend with lots of visitors (a few of my college roommates were in town) and one Miss Isa Porras finally hit that 2 pound mark!! We had a little scare with Celia over the weekend with concerns of an infection (at which time she was put on 3 antibiotics and had a 48-hour blood culture drawn to help determine if the infection was in the bloodstream). Luckily, the end result was a very treatable skin infection caused by an IV she had in for a blood transfusion that is getting better and almost fully resolved at this point. They are both 100% on fortified breast milk for their nutrition and at 34 weeks we will try bottle & breastfeeding!

Celia's kidney labs all came back and were reviewed by the kidney specialists and still there is no cause for concern at this time. The new belief is that the girls require more fluid than most preemies and if they are kept on higher fluids, their kidneys react just fine and we shouldn't see the spike in their potassium levels anymore.

The next "big thing" is their eye exam coming up next Tuesday to make sure their eyes are developing as they should so stay tuned.

Other than that, we are just enjoying our time with the girls. We can Kangaroo a few times a week now which is so wonderful. We spend a lot of time at their bedsides reading them books and telling them all about our days. They are much less sensitive now so we help with all their checks when we are there too, changing diapers, taking their temperatures, helping to weigh them and changing out their bedding. Just 2.5 more months to go!
